Waiting on God

I am terrible at waiting. I always complain that other specialties eg. ER and Internal Medicine have no sense of urgency. For the most part, if I want a CT scan on a patient I make sure the patient is taken down right away for the scan even if I have to push the bed down myself. I am just not very patient. Strange that I chose a specialty among the few that take forever to train.

What does it mean to wait on the Lord? Waiting on God does not mean doing nothing. God wants us to actively wait. We can not just say a prayer once and then say, “I have prayed and left it in God’s hands and that’s that.” Waiting on God is about seeking God in His word, spending quality time with Him and listening to His voice. It’s about trusting Him completely and allowing Him to show Himself and answer your prayers not according to what we want but according to His will. Experience has taught me that God can be trusted, He has proved Himself over and over in my life. I don’t know why often times I want to take the reigns of my life as if I know what I am doing. It is very difficult for me to sit still and wait, but I am learning.

What are you waiting for? Perhaps you have been waiting for a long time and you are lordiwillwaitstarting to wonder if God even hears you. Maybe you are getting tired of waiting and ready to give in or give up. Don’t! God does hear those prayers, and He will answer your prayers in His perfect time and in His perfect way. He’s working it all out, though you may not know all the details. Your situation can change suddenly, just like that!

When we seek God in prayer, we need to eagerly wait on Him. Wait however long it takes. We need to be actively serving Him as we wait and be eager to hear from Him. The waiting period is a time of preparation for the answer. Allow Him to prepare you for what He has in store for you. When you can not imagine waiting one more second, think of all those in the Bible who waited, Joseph is a prime example. He waited 10 years in a prison cell, 10 years! Don’t get me started on Moses or Abraham’s wait to have a son. We ought to keep waiting on God and trusting Him with our whole being, faithfully. Don’t give up! Don’t stop believing! God’s power is limitless, Do not limit Him. Wait patiently on Him, you will be glad you did.
