How did you come to know the Lord? I grew up in a Christian household and both of my parents are ordained ministers. However, I came to know the Lord personally at a church retreat in Junior high. I remember realizing for the first time in my life that, despite how righteous I tried to live, if I were the only person on this Earth God still would have sent his Son to endure the torture of the cross on my behalf. I could not stop crying that day.
Tell us about your ministry: As a Christian and a physician, my ministry is to teach women of God to take care of our bodies as a way to worship and honor God. It was never God’s plan for people to suffer from preventable illnesses. I talk more about this in my best-selling book “Worship and Wellness- The Discovery.”
I know you are extremely busy, how do you find/make time to spend with God? Oluchi2Quiet time with God is essential. It’s tough in this season with work and little kids, but I try to listen to sermons from ministers such as Priscilla Shirer during my commute and also I make it a point that the first thing I read every morning is the Word or my devotional (rather than Facebook, IG etc). I may not read for long periods of time, but it’s my way of giving my day to God.
What practical advice can you offer a woman who wants to have a close relationship with God? In the Bible, God says to seek Him first. We all need to make our relationship with God a priority. Just like any relationship, it takes time, as well as talking and listening. God has written a personal letter to each of us, it’s called the Bible. A great place to start working on your relationship is to begin reading and meditating on the Word of God.
How do you keep your friendships close? I rarely talk on the phone with my friends these days. Texting is my favorite form of communicating. My close friends and I text almost daily!
How do you keep your marriage alive? My husband and I both have very busy schedules, however, we are intentional about keeping our marriage fresh! We do random daytime dates when the kids are at school and occasionally get a sitter and sneak off to the movies like we did when we were dating. We have also made a commitment to go to at least one marriage conference each year–which we really enjoy. We are a team and we both do what we can to help the other person out.
How do you organize your day? This depends on whether it is a clinic day or business/ coaching day. Usually, my schedule is set at least a couple weeks in advance.
oluchibookWhat is your favorite hymn or song and bible verse and what do they mean to you? My favorite hymn is “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” The lyrics speak about how Jesus wants to be more than the fearsome God that many people only know. Jesus is also our friend. How often do we give up peace in our lives because we come to Jesus as the last resort rather than the first option? The lyrics are beautiful.
“…What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer
Oh what peace we often forfeit oh what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer”
Please give us practical advice on healthy living: I could go on for days about this one! It boils down to this: work on improving your diet, exercising regularly, reducing stress and getting enough sleep daily.
What are your 4 keys to living the life of your dreams? 1) Find your purpose in life. God created each of us with unique talents and gifts for a reason. Finding your purpose and walking in it will give you fulfillment in life. 2) Commit your dreams to God. Since He created us, He knows what is best for us. 3) Make sure you have a great support system– family, friends etc. 4) Write your goals down and then go for them! Know that the journey may not be easy but it will be worth it.
